Woman Drags Nigerian Super-Rich Pastor to Court
Nigeria’s super-rich Bishop David Oyedepo is facing a $1.3 million lawsuit slammed on him by a woman he allegedly assaulted in public last year.
The young woman’s identity is being kept secret on the request of her lawyers to protect her from Bishop Oyedepo’s fanatical followers.
Last year, a sensational video appeared on YouTube showing Bishop Oyedepo punching and smacking and pouring invectives on a teenage girl during a church service for committing what was deemed a heresy.
The video shot by Oyedepo’s Living Faith Christian Church International showed the Bishop, reputed to be the wealthiest preacher in Africa, physically rebuking a bewildered teenager who had just confessed to witchcraft.
In the video, which went viral on the internet, the young woman says; “I am not a witch, but a witch for Jesus”.
Robert Igbinedion, a lawyer who filed the lawsuit on behalf of the teenager at the Ogun State High Court, is seeking $1.3 million as “general and exemplary damages”.
