I don’t think it will matter. Today he’s a socialist. Tomorrow he’s a pragmatist.

I don’t believe the EU will dissolve but in it’s current form it is unsustainable.

There is already too much integration (business, transportation, distribution, etc) for that too happen.

However, the financial integration has been a disaster, with even more chasms ahead. Germany cannot be called upon to finance every bailout for nations which are not fiscally responsible- a matter that has nothing to do with current austerity problems.

When politicians from some nations buy votes with promises of massive handouts there is a fundamental problem that has to be addressed.

Europe had better hope the EU succeeds.

In a world of global business only very large national entities like the U.S., Russia and China will thrive. Anything smaller can be held hostage.

“Do this the business community will demand or we leave.” Medium and small nations will have to knuckle under because their economies will fail if they don’t.

It is a case of “We hang together or we hang separately.”

A load of bullshit from VDH. There is no going back to a Europe of fractioned pre-EU days, and everyone except European communists, neonazis, and American anti-communist gloaters know that. I doubt VDH, who in here only offers ideologically skewered ramblings on Europe’s history and nationalistic nonsense axioms paraded as insights, even understands what the EU is.
