There are enough reasons from within the past few years for rejecting Romney (absurd levels of pandering, dead wrong on Auto bailout, not willing to stand up to extremists in his party, etc) without bringing up stuff that happened in Prep school. I’m sure that we all did things in High School of which we’re not proud. Those 4 or 5 classmates didn’t do anything to stop Romney and were likely egging him on, yet they seem to have turned out OK.

Taken by itself it would not be terribly relevant, but I think it is being put forward in combination with other incidents to suggest a pattern of self righteousness and unwarranted interference in other people’s lives.
Taken with other incidents throughout his earlier life there is a pattern, and he doesn’t seem to have changed his way of thinking much.

Individual incidents from anyone’s life can be stitched together to create any kind of patchwork appearance desired. The full body of work allows far better conclusions to be drawn, and as a public figure, Romney provides more than sufficient germane information to form a complete picture. A madcap dash to the extreme right, an almost Prince Albert-like talent for appearing out of touch with the middle class, adamant support of whatever right-wing talking point will get him some delegates, in complete contradiction of previously espoused opinions - all more important than some hormone-fuelled prep school misdeeds.

I’ve done all kinds of shit in my life, but I’ve never physically abused any living being.

I’m starting to wonder if being a bully as a kid is what makes a heartless, starve the poor and elderly “conservative” today.

It’s not your father’s GOP any longer.

re: #1 jc717

I totally disagree with that assessment. You are overlooking the fact that Mitt’s dad was the Governor at the time and his family was rich and powerful so Mitt knew he was in no danger of getting in trouble when he led a mob to assault a miscreant with long hair.

This isn’t just an example of hijinx of an average high school kid. This was a fortunate son born into privilege who had been raised to believe the rules are for other people.

re: #6 Mich-again

Why is he a miscreant? For having long hair? A bit strong, no?

re: #7 Joanne (JustJay)

I believe Mich-again was being sarcastic there. From Mitt’s POV, long hair was apparently unacceptable.

Then I stand corrected and am off to have the Snark-O-Meter adjusted. :-)

Pope Francis Says Atheists Who Do Good Are Redeemed, Not Just Catholics
Pope Francis rocked some religious and atheist minds today when he declared that everyone was redeemed through Jesus, including atheists. During his homily at Wednesday Mass in Rome, Francis emphasized the importance of "doing good" as a principle that unites all humanity, and a "culture of encounter" to support peace. Using scripture from the Gospel of Mark, Pope Francis explained how upset Jesus' ...

Holder: We’ve Droned 4 Americans, 3 by Accident.
In an extraordinary admission, Attorney General Eric Holder has told Congress that U.S. drone strikes since 2009 have killed four Americans -- three of whom were "not specifically targeted." For all the effort that the Obama administration has gone to in asserting that its drones only kill the people that the administration intends to kill, Holder wrote in a letter today to Sen. ...

WAPO’s Glenn Kessler Gives Three “Pinocchios” To Claim of Doctored Emails
It has long been part of the Washington game for officials to discredit a news story by playing up errors in a relatively small part of it. Pfeiffer gives the impression that GOP operatives deliberately tried to "smear the president" with false, doctored e-mails. But the reporters involved have indicated they were told by their sources that these were summaries, taken from notes ...

We know how to reduce the incidence of common medical conditions but …
Obesity is on the rise-- as is the incidence of Heart Disease, Diabetes, Stroke and various forms of Cancer. And, shockingly, diseases that had in the past begun in old age are now appearing at much earlier ages. A groundbreaking scientific study showed how easily (and inexpensively) the rate of occurrence of these and other serious illness could be greatly reduced-- but this information ...
