That's the thing about the Eagle Forum: For all their flag waving, they don't have the first clue about outreach or how to build a coalition, nor do they want one.. What they want is for white evangelicals (AKA 'Real Americans') to rule America in perpetuity.

"they will vote Democrat when the Democrats promise them more food stamps"

This is of course different from the well-connected voting Republican when the GOP promises more subsidies and lower corporate taxes.

I had no idea white supremacy was an American value.

Sure it is, always has been, for as long as there has been immigration there have been parties ready to protest it, either on racial or religious grounds.

"Micks, Spics, Catholics, and Chinks" all had to face much stronger and blatant (and violent) white supremacist objections to their immigration than anything like what you see now.

FTFY. Don't forget the Catholics were Papists, dual loyalties and all that nonsense.

And yet, somehow, we are still here.

Fucked up bigots yet I'm not surprised at all. Who the hell are they to declare what "American Values" are anyhow. Racist pigs.

False. Spiders are generally beneficial with regard to pest control.

In truth, unlimited population growth is probably the greatest threat humanity faces, and not in the far distant future either.

People like Schafly make it almost impossible to discuss the issue in any rational, and ethical, manner.

Actually it turns out that the best way to control population growth is simply to educate women, make sure they have equal rights and access to health care including family planning services including contraceptives. You don't need a 'population control program' and in fact talking about these measures as 'population control' measures is counterproductive. Japan doesn't have any population control program and yet the birth rate is below replacement level. The same is true with many other developed countries.

In summary we need to have a discussion about how to bring economic development and modern attitudes about women to underdeveloped countries, not a discussion about how to control their populations. That problem will go away by itself if the underlying causes are addressed.

re: #13 Timmeh

What you say is true, in theory. Unfortunately it is a chicken and egg condition because the economic (and human rights) development that you wish for is prevented directly by excessive population growth in many parts of the world, which is why it is the danger I stated in the first place.

It is impossible for the entire planet to have standards of living, and associated human rights, comparable to the west for simple resource limitations that are finite.

Attempting to say that the way to improve the conditions in the poorest parts of the world by controlling population (by any means) is immediately seen as ethnic or racist meddling.
