Jury Delivers Verdict in Faith Healer Manslaughter Trial
Tulsa - A Tulsa County jury found a woman guilty of second-degree manslaughter Friday night.
Susan Grady was accused of neglecting to get medical attention for her son, who died nearly three years ago.
Prosecutors said Grady chose prayer over getting medical help for her nine-year-old son, Aaron, who became ill in June 2009.
He died June 5, 2009, from complications of diabetes. According to court documents, he had been sick for several days.
At the time of Aaron’s illness, his father allegedly brought up medical care, but Aaron’s mother allegedly said she would “Leave this in the hands of the Lord.”
Court documents show she withheld medical treatment because of her medical beliefs. She is a member of the Church of the Firstborn, a church that has been the subject of other cases involving children.
Grady’s attorney called the charges a challenge to faith.
