From the article:

Police spokesman Armando Aguillar told reporters that the suspect may have been overdosing on a new, super-potent form of LSD. ”What’s happening is whenever we see that a person has taken all of his clothes off and has become violent, it’s indicative of this excited delirium that’s caused by overdose of drugs,” he said, “What’s happening is inside their body their organs are burning up alive.”

"...organs are burning up alive.” Thanks for the diagnosis doc!

This is probably classic drug-war fear mongering.

I have yet to read about some kind of super-potent LSD anywhere in the media. It is more likely that the individual had an untreated serious mental illness. Too bad providing comprehensive medical attention to the ill is socialism.

As an aside, I suspect the jail sentence for manufacturing LSD exceeds that for manslaughter.

To think they they somehow made a stronger varient of LSD now is ridiculous, its like say that they made a brand new more alchoholic vodka. LSD is LSD is LSD.

It's not LSD.

It's so-called "bath salts."

[Link: miami.cbslocal.com...]

Adams said the new LSD is commonly called “bath salts.” The drug, Adams said, can raise a persons body temperature to such a high degree that logic and the ability to feel pain are lost; then delirium sets in and that often leads to disaster.

“We’ve had several deaths,” Dr. Adams said. “Earlier last year, we probably saw our first death from bath salts where people were running on the MacArthur Causeway, under the MacArthur Causeway being chased by the police and then all of the sudden just collapsing.”

"Bath salts" are actually the synthetic stimulants mephedrone, MDPV, and methylone. Not LSD or any kind of "super-potent" LSD.

It's kind of depressing that the cops don't know that LSD actually stands for something.

Or they do know, and are intentionally misinforming.

I think whoever gave this statement said LSD when they meant to say PCP (Phencyclidine) - more commonly known as "Angel Dust" - which is classified as a dissociative hallucinogenic. It works differently than most common hallucinogenics of the psychedelic variety (LSD, mescaline, etc) that act to increase activity in a specific group of receptors that control serotonin levels. Instead, it works by blocking multiple types of higher-function receptors in the brain, as well as pain and other sensory functions. The combination can lead to a psychosis very similar to what this attacker exhibited.

re: #6 RadicalModerate

Yeah, I was thinking that, but man, mixing up LSD and PCP-- that's a bad mixiup.

Local news has been vaguely trying to tie this into the Urban Beach Week held on Miami Beach every year during Memorial Day Weekend. You may recall a man was shot and killed last year by officers as he wildly drove his car down Ocean Drive. Beach residents have been complaining of the chaos every year and lack of security and police presence. They stepped that up this year.

I think it's safe to say that this incident tops the hell outa that one.

I also thought of PCP and goodness knows what he mixed together. They'll know more when they get the toxicology results back. Local doctors have been reporting seeing increased cases of bad drug trips, especially this time of year. We also have the "Ultra Music Festival" in March which gets pretty wild.

Miami New Times got the attackers name "Rudy Eugene". Here is the link:

[Link: blogs.miaminewtimes.com...]

Page 2 of that article apparently shows the victim which I did not look at. I'll let you all decide on that. Page 1 is totally safe!

Local TV news had an interview with the biker, "Larry Vega". Can you imagine coming up on a scene like that? He said it was worse than a horror movie. He also said that he was shouting at Rudy Eugene to stop and at one point, he looked up at him, flesh hanging from his mouth, and growled. That's what made me think of PCP. Maybe Eugene imagined himself a wolf?

With New Mini-Satellites, Special Ops Takes Its Manhunts Into Space
Some of the beacons use infrared flashes to signal their location; in 2009, al-Qaida propagandists claimed they found them all over villages that had been hit with U.S. drone strikes. Others are implanted into seemingly-innocent commercial electronics. Under "TTL examples," Richardson's presentation (.pdf) showed pictures of a cell phone and a key fob, like the kind used to open a car. Still other ...

Obesity is on the rise-- as is the incidence of Heart Disease, Diabetes, Stroke and various forms of Cancer. And, shockingly, diseases that had in the past begun in old age are now appearing at much earlier ages. A groundbreaking scientific study showed how easily (and inexpensively) the rate of occurrence of these and other serious illness could be greatly reduced-- but this information ...
