I have a book in my library, an autobiography of a man who was a hitter for the mob from the late 50's to the early 70's. He admitted he'd killed thirty eight people, thirty five for money and three for revenge. I don't blame him about the revenge part.

One of his hits he walked into a busy restaurant at lunch time, put three bullets in his victim and walked out again. He got to see the police report on it later. Thirty five people were in the restaurant and each gave a description. This gave the police thirty five different descriptions, none of whom looked like the author.

So, yeah. Eye witnesses are extremely unreliable.

So, yeah. Eye witnesses are extremely unreliable.

Then, Houston, we have a problem: In all of time, we find out, from one crime report, that 35 people, eating lunch in an enclosed room, all of a sudden hear gunfire, and cannot recount the exact events.

And in many cases, witnesses have been reliable, too, and others, they can't recall.

It's up to the prosecutors to not to too "trigger happy" and seeing regenerated/new career highlights for their next CV/resume...and cross validate the testimonies.

You see this all the time in the Innocence Project; eyewitness testimony that convicted innocent people turned out to be unreliable.

Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable, which is why forensic evidence has been a game-changer where it provides key details (DNA, fingerprint, etc.) It's also why the forensic evidence in this case will be critical for the prosecutors proving their case. That the eyewitnesses are all over the map about key details shows that the key moments of the incident are still to be resolved.
