PESHAWAR: A bus carrying government employees from Peshawar to Charsadda was bombed on Friday, resulting into death of 20 people and injuries to 30 others, officials said.
Police official Meera Jan said the bus, transporting Civil Secretariat’s low-grade employees, was near Gulbela area when the bomb ripped through it.
“Initial investigation reveals the bomb was planted in the bus,” the police official told reporters at the site of the attack.
The rear side of the bus was severely damaged in the blast, indicating the bomb could have been placed there. Seven women and a girl were among those killed in the blast, SP (Rural) Shafiullah Khan said.
Bloodied pieces of human flesh littered the seats, along with blood-stained clothes on the road lined with juniper trees.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain said he had no information how many government employees were among the dead since the bus service was used by all types of commuters. “The bomb was planted under the bus,” he added.
The injured were transported to Charsadda and Peshawar hospitals where emergency was declared, according to the minister.
