The goal is to reduce public school to a terminal ward of blacks, poors, and dead-enders taught by minimum-wage temps and retreads. There will be no interest in providing tax dollars to support 'them'. The best of the winners will be revived Catholic schools, who still remember how to run a system, but have lost their most important asset--the subminimum wage nuns.

The goal is also to funnel tax dollars to religious institutions. It's the institution of a Evangelical fundamentalist madrassa system for the poor of Louisiana.

AND private schools aren't bound to No Child Lef Behind testing. What a dysfunctional system-- and that's the point!

Update on Louisiana: after talking about doing the right thing for parents and kids by implementing the voucher system, representative on the legislative floor talk openly about denying funding to an Islamic school.

"The games that we play in this body with the rules and the law need to come to an end. Either you have the votes to pass it or you don't," he said.

Rep. Kenneth Havard, R-Jackson, objected to including the Islamic School of Greater New Orleans in a list of schools approved by the education department to accept as many as 38 voucher students. Havard said he wouldn't support any spending plan that "will fund Islamic teaching."

"I won't go back home and explain to my people that I supported this," he said.

"It'll be the Church of Scientology next year," said Rep. Sam Jones, D-Franklin.

Carter, R-Baton Rouge, said the Islamic school withdrew its request to participate in the voucher program.

"They're not interested. The system works," he said.

Judge rules tea party group a PAC, not a nonprofit
A Travis County district court judge ruled this week that a Houston-based tea party group is not a nonprofit corporation as it claims, but an unregistered political action committee that illegally aided the Republican Party through its poll-watching efforts during the 2010 elections. The summary judgment by Judge John Dietz upheld several Texas campaign finance laws that had been challenged on constitutional grounds ...

Scientists Agree on Climate Change, Why Doesn’t the Public? : NPR
A new study confirms that the vast majority of scientists who research the climate accept that the planet is warming and human beings are largely responsible. Yet a large slice of the American public believes that scientists are deeply split about global warming. More: Scientists Agree on Climate Change, Why Doesn't the Public? : NPR

We are in the midst of the worst Washington scandal since Watergate. The reputation of the Obama White House has, among conservatives, gone from sketchy to sinister, and, among liberals, from unsatisfying to dangerous. No one likes what they're seeing. The Justice Department assault on the Associated Press and the ugly politicization of the Internal Revenue Service have left the administration's credibility deeply, ...

4 Things We Should Remember When Arguing About Politics
Political discourse in America has reached levels of douchebaggery previously only theorized about but never observed, like conversational dark matter. We're in a whole new world of hating people based solely on their opinions on a few key issues, and since this is unexplored territory, our conversations about politics are usually only a couple notches beyond the "hold your breath until the other ...

What to do in Orange County - LA - San Diego
Seems a good way to solicit ideas for touristing destinations and activities. Will have 4-5 days so some opportunity for visiting multiple sites. If there is anything California-geology related that would be ...

Well Mike, I'm abnormal. -- When FZ appeared on the Mike Douglas show (solo, playing guitar with recorded backup), Mike said "Your latest album is called Zoot Allures. How do you come up with such names for your records?" (or something equally banal!) Frank's succinct reply is printed above.
