I thought the idea of being a missionary was to make people WANT to convert to your religion. If they were going to do that, they should have fried some bacon.

Stoking religious hatred, is it? I know what they're going to here when they die if they're still unrepentant of this stunt:

"Depart, ye cursed, to everlasting fire!"

One cult taunting another.

this next part is just stupid:

t one point, some kids started throwing water bottles and pop cans at the missionaries. Others chanted “Allah-U-Akbar” (God is the greatest). One of the Christians shouted in response “Jesus Akbar.”

To say "Jesus is greatest" is a severe misunderstanding of Christian theology. Allah, as God the father, is like Jesus part of the Holy Trinity. Those morons don't even understand their own religion.

Obviously their religions are both false since the supernatural only exists in story-telling, but one of these groups is not like the other. I see hate from one side here.

Ah, especially the part about turning the other cheek, going the extra mile, loving your neighbor, etc.

Yes, of course. And one of the cults is taunting the other, just as I said in my previous post.

I'm sure this simple factual statement will again receive negative votes.

I am agnostic so I don't have a dog in the religion fight, but when you use the word cult you are intentionally using a loaded word and trying to belittle people who happen to believe. When you use the word cult to describe something that to many people is the center of their life you should not be surprised by a couple of down dings.

I don't find it surprising, merely amusing. And I'm not belittling people, I'm just belittling their beliefs.

What a bunch of dicks.

Dicks for Jesus!

I seriously doubt their savior would approve of their message.

Sure, and Robert Spencer isn't anti-Muslim, he's just anti-Islam. (someone informed me of this just the other day.) It's really hard to make that sort of distinction seem real.

Also, you're so eager to get in a swipe at the belief systems here that you're not looking at the actual people. This isn't an equally stupid clash of faiths. One party here actually went out of their way to insult and harass the other group, which was was not bothering them. That may not change how you see their respective religions (and shouldn't), but it should change how you see THESE SPECIFIC PEOPLE.

Also, (on another note),since when is pork a symbol of Christianity? This reminds me of the moron who was going to celebrate Bin Laden's death with a beer and "a Hebrew national pork hot dog". I wonder if he's still looking, or if he just can't read labels.

Belittling a person's core belief is the same as belittling them personally. "Cult" is, as danarchy noted, a very loaded word that conjures up all sorts of connotations such and Jim Jones and the People's Temple and the insane violence of Joseph Koney and the Lord's Resistance Army.

Using a loaded word like that is asking to be regarded with hostility. But if hostility is what you want, I'll be happy to keep downdinging you.

No, no it's not at all. If someone wants to conflate the two, well, that's really his/her personal problem, not mine.

Again, if one can't separate the mocking of a belief system from the mocking of people themselves, that just says something about their lack of objectivity, and it is really their own personal problem.

Political beliefs are mocked here all the time. I don't hold religious beliefs on any higher pedestal than political beliefs, and don't plan on it.

The problem I have with your comment has nothing to do with the mocking but in the call to the MBF. What the missionaries were doing went beyond taunting, so the representatives of the two religions weren't acting equally.

As far as separating the person from the belief, logically and practically I agree with you, but from the point of view of a believer, if s/he identifies strongly with the belief, separating the two isn't possible, so you can see why those comments were made.
