Unfortunately, there is little that law enforcement can do about the problem as President Obama refuses to enforce the immigration laws. According to Valencia the drug cartels are “operating under the cover of a growing Latino community” in the United States, and “the large boom in Latino population allows easier access for the cartels to blend in and hide under that cover so it’s a hard road ahead for the authorities that’s for sure.”

This is the reality of the current debate over immigration reform. Just as the discussions flared a few weeks about “Stand Your Ground” in the wake to the Tampa Bay Times article, the laws are applied in ways that were not foreseen. Here is but another case of not clearly considering the implication of the entire context of the immigration laws of the Nation. Like it or not, the laws formed for this “Nation of Immigrants” had a function to protect those here from criminal elements and also manage public health issues. It hasn’t been perfect, but it works most all of the time, even if it took time and had “Red Tape” involved. Just know this: We love “Red Tape” when it protects what any one of use likes, but hate it when it doesn’t give us instant gratification requirements.

For a number of years now, both political parties have maneuvered in this arena to get/maintain a voting base for many years now…both sides of the aisle played hard, and, IMHO, the announcement yesterday, which furthers the problem of this article posted via the unintended “loopholes” that will be exploited by “lawfare,” much as we have had suits brought against the Arizona by a foreign nation (Mexico) in US Federal Courts. Regardless of what you think about that from your political filters, it can cut both directions.

Drug cartels, based in a foreign nation, see “business opportunity” within our borders growing, and will most certainly take advantage of the Federal policies that enable “business” to grow (consider that about all Federal law/policy/regulation regarding any business being stifled or enhanced). Standby for things happening on the border happening in your neighborhood…then think about how policy will have made if more difficult for law enforcement, already stretched thin by the current economic conditions, now having the presence of para-military, violent, armed drug gangs in their jurisdiction.

If this is the outcome of a bid to get votes, by any party, I’m disgusted.

Thats right. Blame a refusal to enforce a law thats futile to enforce, instead of blaming a different law thats also futile to enforce: the war on drugs. /half-sarc, but not really (hey, its complicated)

Yeah! Ship ‘em all back. Who cares if they’re career criminals or just people trying to escape the hell on earth that the cartels have made of Mexico? Screw ‘em! They’re all criminals as far as we’re concerned. Once the civilian illegal immigrants are gone, we can more easily racially profile the cartel members. /definitely sarc

Another example of the partisan overlay preventing so much as even barely rational discussion.

Yeah, that will fix it. Sure.

Which laws? I thought that a lot of people were bellyaching about Obama because his administration was deporting more people than Bush was.

re: #3 Daniel Ballard

Sorry, but Republicans are barely rational on this or any other issue.
