More focus on the Awad family. Basically, there are two conflicting stories, one from each brother, regarding a cornerstone story of family lore, how their grandfather was killed. Only one can be accepted as truth. If you choose one version over another, the discarded version has to be false given contradictory facts. And we’ll never know if the chosen story is true. Essentially, the death occurred during the 1948 war, in a war zone. One rendition says there was a lull in the fighting. The other says there was constant crossfire.

However, this is the key to the article, which has nothing to do with the Awads. A third version is made up of whole cloth—

Sami’s implication was turned into a straight out assertion of fact in this blog entry by a Vineyard Pastor [proper link at site] attending the conference, who summarized Sami Awad’s talk as follows: ‘[Sami Awad] shared much of his story which goes back to the death of his grandfather at the hands of an Israeli sniper, while trying to raise a white flag over his home to protect his family, during the war of 1948.’

And that’s the issue, that doubts and misleading statements turn into fact and enter the debate within the Presbyterian community.
