Well, I call myself pro-choice, but I'm probably a nobody, so the title still works ;-)

I call myself pro-choice too. Added with "I'm not going to judge you for making a choice that is legal and have zip to do with me."

When a woman is in a situation where she requires an abortion, it is not really a "choice" for her.

Nobody "chooses" to have an abortion like they're "choosing" what to make for dinner or what brand of toothpaste to buy.

I think there are many people who are deeply troubled by abortion, and may even believe that it's wrong to define a point where live begins, but don't want to see women or doctors go to jail for making hard choices.

So I can't say I agree with that comment. It's a position I can understand.

Count me in the ranks of those troubled by mid- to late-term abortions (though not so much early-term ones). But, what you said.....

ggt - that statement has always bothered me too. It is up there with another one that goes like, "abortion is ok but should never be used in place of birth control," which strikes me as equally bizarre.

I'm pro-choice just as I'm an atheist, but both labels really don't describe my views and are just easily accessible labels.

I haven't been asked about abortion in person for a very, very long time, but the last time I recall being asked it went something like this, " yeah, I support women getting abortions, just like I support people getting root canals and plastic surgery. It's their body and a medical procedure."

I don't care what you call it, as long as we don't let the ignorant conservatives get our goverment into the forced-birth business.

8 moderatelyradicalliberal  Wed, Jun 20, 2012 4:14:02pm

I'm pro-choice and if I had gotten pregnant anytime before 28 I would have had an abortion and I'm not ashamed to say it. I've never been interested in being a teen or single mother with no money or the father of the child to help me raise it.

Right wing propagandists and their sympathizers are responsible for the language. Just like comparing liberals to communists every day on the radio and tv. Do it enough and people don't want to be associated with it.

I'm pro-choice but no, abortion should never be used as casual birth control: it's bad for the mother. & I used to say I would never have an abortion, because I always wanted children. Well, now I have them, & the cost, while slightly high, is something I do not want to pay yet again. So, yeah, if I had gotten pregnant before I got my tubes snipped, yes, I would have had to have one. & I would have hated every second of it. I think that supporting the right of someone who does something you either hate, or merely just don't understand is a lot more important than someone who could be said to be in it for themselves. Disinterested, ideological support doesn't change with personal circumstances. The more I think about it, the more I resent the tone of that comment, because I hate, REALLY HATE people putting words in my mouth!!

You can quote me as proudly pro choice. Here, twitter or FB. Count me in the minority that will say so.

There Is No Such Thing Really as Professional Photographers
there's no such thing as Flickr Pro, because today, with cameras as pervasive as they are, there is no such thing really as professional photographers, when there's everything is professional photographers. Certainly there is varying levels of skills, but we didn't want to have a Flickr Pro anymore, we wanted everyone to have professional quality photos, space, and sharing." - Marissa Mayer, Yahoo ...

WAPO’s Glenn Kessler Gives Three “Pinocchios” To Claim of Doctored Emails
It has long been part of the Washington game for officials to discredit a news story by playing up errors in a relatively small part of it. Pfeiffer gives the impression that GOP operatives deliberately tried to "smear the president" with false, doctored e-mails. But the reporters involved have indicated they were told by their sources that these were summaries, taken from notes ...

Men Are Being Sexually Assaulted in the Military, but Nobody Is Talking About It — the Good Men Project
Our Soldiers are being raped...by our Soldiers. In the U.S. Military, annually, more men are being raped by men than women are being raped by men. I state this fact, articulating it in this manner, not to diminish what these women are enduring but to raise the level of awareness and discourse to fully include the men; they have been dropping through the ...

CSOPE Classroom Curriculum System Dies Amid Criticism
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - A classroom curriculum system used by hundreds of Texas school districts will stop offering lesson plans after some conservative groups claimed it was promoting anti-American values. State Sen. Dan Patrick said Monday that officials who created the system known as CSOPE will vote to scrap thousands of lesson plans this week, effectively killing the entire system. CSCOPE had helped ...

We know how to reduce the incidence of common medical conditions but …
Obesity is on the rise-- as is the incidence of Heart Disease, Diabetes, Stroke and various forms of Cancer. And, shockingly, diseases that had in the past begun in old age are now appearing at much earlier ages. A groundbreaking scientific study showed how easily (and inexpensively) the rate of occurrence of these and other serious illness could be greatly reduced-- but this information ...

Your Weekly Peggy Noonan Three Martini Column
We are in the midst of the worst Washington scandal since Watergate. The reputation of the Obama White House has, among conservatives, gone from sketchy to sinister, and, among liberals, from unsatisfying to dangerous. No one likes what they're seeing. The Justice Department assault on the Associated Press and the ugly politicization of the Internal Revenue Service have left the administration's credibility deeply, ...
