If you want to help people, change their minds. If you can’t do that, withholding aid isn’t going to help at all. It’s just abdicating societal responsibility.

Either we’re a society or we’re not.

Reading the comments over at “The Forward” I thought I clicked on a wrong link somewhere and was reading “Fox Nation.”

As some one on the disabled list I can attest to the fact that a lot of people would rather see me living on the street, or dead, than they give a cent to helping me or others like me.

In a lot of ways it’s the dark side of the belief in free will. Free will means that a person chooses to be poor. If a person just decided to be strong enough they wouldn’t have that problem is what many think.

I often wish that these people could live a live of poverty for a year, just to gain a little perspective. I suspect many of them would not survive it though. Often those who are loudest about their ability and strength are those with the least amount of these traits.
