For the life of me, I have a hard time understanding why rules can't be put into place that would require that any amendment attached to the bill be directly and substantially related to the stated purpose of that bill. That would (should, could?) eliminate this type of purely political grandstanding. When I get appointed "Benevolent Dictator for Life" that will be one of my first actions.

Of course I know the reason, both sides also use it as a tool to put a 'poison pill' into a proposed bill to avoid having to deal with issues in a rational, measured way.

No matter how cynical I get, I just can't keep up.

Enough already. So-called "libertarians" are dictators who want to interfere with our most private, personal matters and also, they're violating our religious freedom in the process.

At the very least the Congress has to enact measures to stop the practice of adding off-topic amendments to other laws. One of these allowed the killing of mustangs and shamefully, Henry Reid was party to it; that ugly piece of legislation was tacked onto a "must pass" appropriations bill so there was nothing that could be done to stop it.

The tail is wagging the dog politically - politicians (including SCOTUS) are ignoring the wishes of the people and this is against our core principles.

This is the guy libertarians think best fits their ideology in the Senate? A guy who holds up a bill about flood insurance in hurricane season for a silly political gesture? That's their role model? I think Paul will get his ass kicked in re-election in 2016. He benefited from a Republican year, his father's following, and a rising anti government mood. He won't have all those things going for him in 2016.
