Romneycare is fine because Romney is white. Obamacare is bad because Obama is a black Muslim, Indonesia/Kenya citizen communist? This is the second time I saw Roberts decision viewed in racial terms (at another website Roberts is called the N word).

At first, I discounted the rhetoric from the Left stating that the Right objected to Obama because of racism. Now, I assume anyone who uses the words "Anybody but Obama" in a sentence are racists.

Destro, would it be possible in future for you to put your comment in the body of your page when you first post? It makes the integration of the article with your personal position/commentary more obvious.

re: #2 alinuxguru

I try not to think that way. We have good friends who I know not to be in the least racist and do not like BHO. They are small business owners and feel that their tax burden has risen during the BHO administration. Another reason I try to distance myself from that type of reaction to "Anybody but Obama" is that I do not want to find myself voting for him solely because of the reasons others may have for voting against him. That is an entirely too derivative way to make an important decision.

Whose taxes have been raised during Obama's presidency?

Well, please let them know that they are misinformed. Their Federal taxes, and the taxes of their employees, are actually lower under Obama.

I don't know if it's primarily race based or not but there definitely is real hostility to this president because of his unique upbringing.

Yeah, that wasn't hyperbole.

I think the dynamic may work in reverse.

Republicans, in the main, switched from calling it "government run healthcare" to calling it "Obamacare." The changeover has been quite dramatic, and it seems too uniform to not be delliberate.

I think what it means is that one way to fight against Dems, and secondarily healthcare reform, is to associate it with Obama - to capitalize on the preexisting racist hatred of Obama. Previously they were fighting healthcare reform and Dems by association with socialism, big government, etc. It's about partisanship first (as always), and healthcare reform second (as demonstrated by the fact that Republicans previously supported the policies they now oppose), and they are exploiting racism to achieve partisan goals.

11 What, me worry?  Fri, Jun 29, 2012 5:39:32pm

As long as we're throwing around the R word, I'd say the author of that quote pretty much foots the bill!

Dems weren't "bribed and cajoled". We/they wanted this law. We can't afford NOT to have it. Healthcare costs have long been out of control. People are going bankrupt because they can't pay for their illnesses. Illnesses are happening because people can't afford "wellness" care. Emergency room costs are astronomical. It was a mess in every sense and the Affordable Care Act will hopefully fix it. It'll fix huge bits of it anyway.

The teabaggers were basically told what Destro said in #1 - that this socialist, commie, Muslim, Kenyan... this Other... this Black man - is trying to bleed you dry. Because when they were told what the Affordable Care Act actually did, they cheered "Right on!" The Washington Post did a little survey...

Eighty percent of Republicans favor “creating an insurance pool where small businesses and uninsured have access to insurance exchanges to take advantage of large group pricing benefits.” That’s backed by 75 percent of independents.

* Fifty-seven percent of Republicans support “providing subsidies on a sliding scale to aid individuals and families who cannot afford health insurance.” That’s backed by 67 percent of independents.

* Fifty-four percent of Republicans favor “requiring companies with more than 50 employees to provide insurance for their employers.” That’s backed by 75 percent of independents.

* Fifty two percent of Republicans favor “allowing children to stay on parents insurance until age 26.” That’s backed by 69 percent of independents.

* Seventy eight percent of Republicans support “banning insurance companies from denying coverage for pre-existing conditions; 86 percent of Republicans favor “banning insurance companies from cancelling policies because a person becomes ill.” Those are backed by 82 percent of independents and 87 percent of independents.

* One provision that isn’t backed by a majority of Republicans: The one “expanding Medicaid to families with incomes less than $30,000 per year.”

re: #6 Destro

Whose taxes have been raised during Obama's presidency?

I was making a point unrelated to the veracity of their perception. There are actually people who will not vote for Obama because of his policies, not because of the colour of his skin.
