Why doesn't this surprise me?

Could you imagine the wingnut freakout if President Obama scheduled a visit to Israel on Tisha B'Av?

So a fast & day of mourning will be marked by ostentation & worldly matters, no doubt with some lame nod of the head to the spiritual symbolism of the day.*

Way to go, Team Romney! //

*I find this especially irksome as Ramadan will start around July 19-20, so the fact that those kinds of observances are NOT supposed to be about political crap and $60K per plate dinners is very much at the forefront of my mind right now.

Just out of curiosity, how many presidential candidates have actually physically attended an overseas fundraiser?

Just the ones that feel they can take home some bread.

“It’s going to be a statesmanlike visit, because [Romney] needs to be careful about how everything is perceived,” [Israeli Republican political consultant] Daniels explained.

If the dinner takes place after 8:05 PM it will not be a violation of the fast. FYI.

True, it could be a late-evening affair. I'm still not sure I would want to break the fast with a political fundraiser, but it takes all sorts.

It's just another example of Mitt's complete insensitivity, like his declaration at the NAACP meeting about ending Obamacare.

What is wrong with this guy? More importantly - why is he a nominee for President of this wonderfully diverse nation of ours?

Look at his party, hardly a diverse bunch.

True, but you'd assume that whoever is setting this up on the Jerusalem side can at least look at a calender.

Maybe I'm too accommodating (or wimpy or whatever), here, but I'm not overly upset that they didn't know when Tisha B'Av is. Lots of JEWS don't know when Tisha B'av is! But to trip up over Ramadan??? Yeah, epic fail!
