Child Killed by Rebel Bomb in Colombia
One child was killed and five others injured when leftist FARC rebels detonated a motorcycle bomb in the southwestern province of Cauca, Colombian authorities said.
The injured youngsters were taken to hospitals in Popayan, the provincial capital.
The blast took place in El Plateado, a hamlet within the municipality of Argelia, whose mayor, Elio Andrade, told El Tiempo newspaper that one of the wounded kids was in serious condition.
Before the explosion, a helicopter experiencing mechanical problems made an emergency landing on a soccer field in El Plateado and the aircraft’s two occupants were grabbed by the guerrillas, the mayor said.
