They want a feudal world. One similar to medieval Europe. A world where they and their noble class have power and no one else does.

Most businesses I presume got some kind of loan to get started with, loans made possible by the deposits of others and backed up by the FDIC, at least.

Investor's Business Daily used to be a pretty decent center right financial paper, but since Obama became President they've gone full metal far right -- like so many other right wing blogs and websites.

France took a similar approach several hundred years ago...didn't work out so well for the nobles in the end.

That IBD essay is nonsense. The writer took an Obama quote out of context in order to fit his "Obama Is A Kenyan Marxist" narrative.

When Obama said "If you've got a business -- you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen" he was clearly referring (however awkwardly) to what he had said in his previous sentence about infrastucture and how businesses rely on things like government-built roads, rails, and bridges for commerce.

IBD is being misleading. This is all they have in their article from the speech.

"If you've got a business — you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen."

This makes it look like Obama is saying the entrepreneur didn't build the business.

Here is the extended version of his statement.

"If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you've got a business, you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen," he said. "The Internet didn't get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet."

What Obama was talking about was the infrastructure used by everyone, including entrepreneurs to build their businesses. IBD is being disingenuous.

ggt, change the title to something about IBD skewing the speech and it will be more tweetable.

BTW, the Fox News on-air report did something similar, although the on-line version is better.

The Washington Post did a little article yesterday on how various right wing outlets were taking Obama's words out of context, and gave the full quote in context.

That's one of the serious problems with today's GOP - they support the new sociopathic capitalists, like Trump, and Romney's Bain instead of the long term steady growth capitalists like Jack Welch, Warren Buffet, etc. Real capitalists realize that for capitalism to work as something other than an extortion racket that both sides of all transactions need to receive something of value. Too many businessmen today model their tactics after Hollywood productions like the Godfather and The Sopranos. Business isn't about going to the mattresses, it's about partnering and mutual support.

What the hell has government spending ever done for us?

Seriously, besides national defense, interstate highways, nuclear power, space exploration, computer technology, safe food inspection, outdoor recreation, sustainable resource conservation, globally renowned research, computing infrastructure, safe waste disposal, railways, postal service, the electric grid and the internet, what has it ever really done for the common man or business owner?

Ha! If the government hadn't been in the way and doing all those things thru socialism paid for by ruinous levels of taxation upon the common man and catastrophic taxes on business, then the real Libertarian men and women of this country would have stepped up and done it themselves out of the money saved. They would have done it faster and cheaper too! By now everyone would have a hover car in their driveway!

The lies perpetuate:

Echo Chamber: Fox And Romney Tag-Team False Small-Business Attack On Obama

Romney: "Apologize for accurately reporting the fact that I was still CEO of Bain! While I wait for your apology, I'll once again blatantly take a quote of yours completely out of context to attack you with lies. Where's my apology?????"

IBD proclaimed Steven Hawking would die with Britain's socialized medicine:

People such as scientist Stephen Hawking wouldn't have a chance in the U.K., where the National Health Service would say the life of this brilliant man, because of his physical handicaps, is essentially worthless.

Of course the editorial is nowhere to be found at IBD. They continue to publish filthy lies and distortions daily but hey, conservatives demand it.

'I owe my life to the NHS': Stephen Hawking tells US to stop attacking health service

Professor Stephen Hawking has defended the NHS after its severe criticism during the American political debate over health care reforms.

The physicist spoke up for the NHS after the Republican Right claimed it was 'evil' and 'Orwellian' in a direct attack on Barack Obama's plans to overhaul health care in the U.S.

Critics of the president have said his plans would introduce a 'socialist' system like Britain's.

Prof Hawkin, who suffers from Lou Gehrig's disease, said: 'I wouldn't be here today if it were not for the NHS.

'I have received a large amount of high quality treatment without which I would not have survived.'

He was in Washington last night to be awarded America's highest civilian honour, the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Smarmy Fox News story update!

Parents of little lemonade entrepreneurs find Obama's small biz advice leaves sour taste

Clara Sutton, 7, and little sister Eliza, 4, started CoolBlast Lemonade in their suburban Houston neighborhood, and quickly generated business brisk enough to bring on another employee, younger brother Eirik. Their father said the kids have gotten a business education right out in front of their home under the watchful eyes of their parents -- but with no help from the government.

This is what Fox calls news? Seriously it was obvious to anyone without an obvious agenda (oops, hello Rupert) what the president was talking about. But hey let's lie to kids about what the president said and use it for a cheap oplitical attack. Way to go, asses.

Hmmm. I wonder how much rent those children pay for their spot in the driveway (or is the front lawn? or the sidewalk? In any case, it's land they don't own). What about parking for the customers? Does the lemonade stand supply that, or did God provide?

How about the mixing jug, the utensils and measuring cup, what about the freezer from whence come the ice cubes?

Yeah, those kids did it all by themselves.

From what I recall, this was a case of particularly egregious right-wing stupidity combined with right-wing ethnocentrism. They assumed that Stephen Hawking was American.
