hmmm, as I remember the classic economic essay, I Pencil, I am wondering what exactly IBD is thinking? Isn’t the point of free market economics that we CAN’T do anything alone. We must cooperate?

Obama’s point, IMHO, is that the people that work together thru the market to produce a product are either slaves or business partners of the manufacturer.
We’ve seen, in the past, that the idea of “I’ve done it alone” produces a greed that is damaging to individuals and societies. Workers become objectified, their humanity is removed. We fought a war to free slaves, nearly destroying the country. Unions formed, workers struck. Labor laws were passed by Washington, Government departments were created, entitlements were enacted.
We’ve seen better healthcare for the average citizen, the closing of “poor houses” and orphanages, average citizens sending their children to college, maternal and infant death has become unheard of in this country. Compare to countries in which manufacturers and “business owners” are not regulated by government?
