As a child the church I attended bought the various Chick Publications tracts by the truckload and handed them out like candy. People were encouraged to take piles of them to deposit in the public library, on buses, in city hall, in hotel lobbies, or anywhere else some passerby might curiously pick one up to read.

I read dozens of them, mostly ones dealing with the “Rapture” since that seemed to be a favorite topic and always came away feeling a bit unsettled by the seeming glee they embraced in watching the “dirty sinners” finally being punished by a Righteous God.

I found myself somehow doubting that many of the circumstances depicted in these tracts were quite so readily and easily resolved by simply accepting Jesus as your savior.

I also remember a tract that made me literally sick to my stomach, one called “Lisa.” It turns out that “Lisa” is no longer published by Chick Publications (and for good reason) but I still managed to find a copy so that I could share it and perhaps make the rest of you sick to your stomachs also.

So anyway the moral to this story is that it is ok to be a drunken, porn addicted, unemployed wastrel who incestuously rapes his four year old daughter and then pimps her out to the blackmailing neighbor, because… When your family Doctor discovers the abuse and that she has contracted an incurable venereal disease he will not report you to the police as long as you accept Jesus into your heart and become “Born Again”… Then your nagging (rightfully so) wife will not be at all upset with you for raping your daughter, or infecting her, or sharing her with the neighbor because you have found Jesus.

And then everyone lived happily ever after…
