Sounds like his brain is and has been running in an altered state. Brain scans and lab reports are going to be interesting if we get to see them. I wonder what access he had to neuroactive drugs as a student. And if so how long was he taking them.

None of this stuff is illegal or especially hard to get. He got a big consignment of ammo from this place, for example, and he bought the rifle from Gander Mountain Sports and Outdoors.
An ammo order of that size isn't unusual at all and would not have raised a twitch of concern, let alone a red flag. Gun-shop commandos and right-wing types in general have been buying and hoarding mountains of the stuff since Obama was elected, with no end in sight. A few years ago, police raided a house in LA and found that the owner had a million rounds of small arms ammunition on hand. The media focused on that astonishing number, but it wasn't the reason for the raid and he wasn't charged for it, since it was completely legal.

Note from the above link that the Russians have helpfully been making ammunition in American calibers and sending it here by the shipload, at bargain prices.

Serious shooters like to re-load and won't typically have a huge number of finished rounds at one time.
Anyone with many thousands of rounds on hand is likely to be hoarding it for "emergencies," usually some right-wing paranoid scenario of gun confiscation, minority uprisings, UN occupation, etc. That is, they're nuts.
