Because George III, Defender of the Faith, Head of the English Church, was an agent of Satan.

Barton: If you have a tyrant that’s telling you that you can’t do what God told you to do, then rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God. And that’s what they said; they said we’re not in rebellion, we’re in complete submission to God on this.

No, The way to obey Jesus if confronted with a tyrant who is seeking to make you do something against your faith is to allow yourself to be martyred for Christ without fighting back.

Where do the right wing Christians get these doctrines from? They literally are not even following their own Holy Book's words.

Romans 13

Submission to Governing Authorities

13 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. 4 For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience.

6 This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing. 7 Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

I love quoting the bible in response to Barton...

When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. Truly I tell you, you will not finish going through the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.

Benjamin Franklin said "Rebellion against tyrants is obedience to God".

Barton is neither original, nor, I expect, able to understand exactly what the implications of what he's saying are.

Anyone else notice that Barton is trying to lay the groundwork to explain that rebellion against the United States Government is in fact Godly and Patriotic at least if a Tyrant, (like maybe a Socialistic Muslim kenyan who wants to confiscate your guns) is President

He is by no means the only one on the Far Right to do so either, freakin nutjobs are waiting and dreaming with bated breath for the "revolution" they envision happening if Obama is re-elected.

So, Mr. Barton, after the legitimately elected government of the United States is somehow overthrown by multiple gangs of armed thugs, each with conflicting ideals of what the new government should be, how do you propose to restore order and civil governance to this countries population?

I suggest that you simply move to Somalia instead, after all you have about as much chance of getting the factions there to all agree to your ideals of a Christian theocracy as you do the types of factions you are actively courting as allies here.

re: #8 Tiny Alien Kitties are Watching You

I picked up on it, too. Barton speaks for an authoritarian strain of Xianity, and the whole rebellion against the King must trouble some of them. So, here he is, trying to pretzel-logic his way into affirming the colonists did exactly what God said -- or would have said, if Barton were the mouthpiece back then.

Meanwhile, we've got nutjobs today who swear that they are now living under tyranny, so Barton is seemingly giving them a Biblical basis for "rebellion." I suspect, however, that none of these armchair revolutionaries have the stamina to put up with the hardships that a real rebellion would entail.

Barton: A lot of people get lost over the American Revolution, they say there is no way America could ever be blessed because it was born out of rebellion, they rebelled against God.

Really? A lot of people say that?

How very odd. I've never heard anybody say anything even remotely similar.

Nor I. Ever. Probably because I was raised in the United States, and was taught the Revolution as a righteous cause from early childhood on.

And yes, he's laying groundwork to say that it's OK to rise up against ANOTHER 'tyrant', in the event that you don't like the actual built-in protections of our system against tyranny.

This is not about poor ol' King George.

I have a feeling that Mr. Barton would have been fine with absolute monarchy as long as it protected his choice of religion. It was a rebellion. There's nothing to be ashamed of there whatsoever. Can't believe Huckabee wants us to think this quack is some respectable historian.

Barton totally needs to get in touch with some Thomas Paine.

Obituary: John Goddard Dies at 88; Adventurer Fulfilled Most of Childhood Goals
Indiana Jones, the swashbuckling fictional adventurer, would seem to have nothing on John Goddard. As a boy growing up in Los Angeles, Goddard dreamed of adventures in faraway lands and spent his life pursuing an elaborate set of goals. There Is No Such Thing Really as Professional Photographers
there's no such thing as Flickr Pro, because today, with cameras as pervasive as they are, there is no such thing really as professional photographers, when there's everything is professional photographers. Certainly there is varying levels of skills, but we didn't want to have a Flickr Pro anymore, we wanted everyone to have professional quality photos, space, and sharing." - Marissa Mayer, Yahoo ...

WAPO’s Glenn Kessler Gives Three “Pinocchios” To Claim of Doctored Emails
It has long been part of the Washington game for officials to discredit a news story by playing up errors in a relatively small part of it. Pfeiffer gives the impression that GOP operatives deliberately tried to "smear the president" with false, doctored e-mails. But the reporters involved have indicated they were told by their sources that these were summaries, taken from notes ...

Men Are Being Sexually Assaulted in the Military, but Nobody Is Talking About It — the Good Men Project
Our Soldiers are being raped...by our Soldiers. In the U.S. Military, annually, more men are being raped by men than women are being raped by men. AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - A classroom curriculum system used by hundreds of Texas school districts will stop offering lesson plans after some conservative groups claimed it was promoting anti-American values. We know how to reduce the incidence of common medical conditions but …
Obesity is on the rise-- as is the incidence of Heart Disease, Diabetes, Stroke and various forms of Cancer. And, shockingly, diseases that had in the past begun in old age are now appearing at much earlier ages. A groundbreaking scientific study showed how easily (and inexpensively) the rate of occurrence of these and other serious illness could be greatly reduced-- but this information ...

 Frank says:

It began with lyrics, but even looking at the PMRC fund raising letter in the last paragraph, at the bottom of the page, it starts looking like it's branching into other areas when it says 'We realize that this material's pervaded other aspects of society' and it's like 'What, you gonna fix it all for me?'
