Will it work for atheists too?

I bet doing daily crossword puzzles or still being active in your job would produce the same results. Praying or relying on any supernatural thinking is dangerous in the context of medicine. Steve Jobs’ decision to treat his pancreatic cancer with a vegan diet, herbs, juices and acupuncture rather than the surgery is one such example of the "evils" of supernatural thinking.

$ to donuts Sudoku would have better results than talking to an imaginary friend.

You all can take this with a grain of salt if you wish. Not a big deal. I find it amusing.

Crap, is Haaretz behind a paywall now? Or is it just a matter of giving them an email address with which they can spam me with subscription offers?

re: #5 kreyagg

I think it's subscription. Fortunately, there are other papers and news sources. And like all papers, they want to be read. So it's not over.

Oh, I see by my comment #4 that I should have written the opposite. Okay, this is fact which should cause everyone to change their minds and beliefs. So, no more individual thinking. Better? Heh.

Perhaps Alzheimer's is God's punishment for those who do not pray./

They're praying to the wrong God though. That pisses God off even more than not praying at all.

It just seem quite broad to me.

A little more from here:

"Prayer is a custom in which thought is invested, and the intellectual activity involved in it may constitute a protective measure against the disease," Prof. Rivka Inzelberg, lead researcher from Tel Aviv University said.

It then goes on to say that the samples were skewed because of the outcome of the studies.

But then I'd think that the same would happen if you continue academic studies, read, talk with family, basically, have an active life?

Hardening of the arteries can cause some dementia and possibly Alzheimer.

They don't always get the Alzheimer's diagnosis correct. I've seen that more often than I can count.

Pancreatic cancer is a killer. There is no survival. The only question is "how much more life do I have" or "what is going to extend my life and/or give me the best quality."

I think the larger part, even 100% of this, is genetic.

And I 100% believe in the power of prayer because it makes you feel better and feeling better is a key into actually being better.

I am kind of worried about telling people to rely solely on the supernatural for cures or healing. I agree that any activity that gives you comfort and mentally feeling better should be encouraged as long as people are told that it is not a substitute for medicinal science.

I assume meditation shows similar benefits.
