Climate change is running its course as though the past 50 years of scientific prediction and warning never happened. Oceans will rise, the plains will bake into a howling wilderness of heat and dust, and the entire population of Mexico will flee north.
History, if any, will damn and curse the luddites, quacks, robber barons, and superstition peddlers who thwarted and ignored science in favor of short term profit. Some of the denialists are young enough that they will have to personally face the full wrath of the consequences. Others, fortunately for them, will be dead and buried before then.

I have mentioned before that I was blessed with being able to travel multiple times over extended periods of time (decades) and return to some of the most pristine and remotest areas of the planet (no, not the poles). I have witnessed first hand the rapid changes and destruction of our environment from glaciers to coral reefs to rain forests and more. It would seem that we have finally hit the tipping point and the chickens are home to roost.

For me, what I was taught in school back in the 40's & 50's about the ozone hole, the greenhouse effect, etc., just made sense - but then, I was one of those slide rule carrying-pocket protector science and techno-geeks with few social skills.

Agree with SK but would state it a bit more strongly.

There is anecdotal evidence that a fair number of deeply conservative farmers in the country's midsection are beginning to accept the idea of climate change. It is possible that the forces of Big Agriculture will begin to push for remedies, which would provide some counterweight to Big Energy and their push to do nothing.
