Why wouldn't a photocopy of an id be sufficient much as it is for proof of age now? I'll bet there's enough other loopholes big enough to drive a 5 ton ammo truck through.

Smells like typically badly written "feel good" legislation that doesn't do any good as written by scared urbanites who have a pathological fear of guns. It won't pass either house much less get signed so I suppose, since it is simply red meat for the base, it doesn't matter how badly written it is.

More feel good band-aid mongering, like the AWB.
Would Holmes not have gone on his rampage if he had only been able to get, say, 200 rounds of ammunition rather than 6000? Would the clerk at the big box store have refused the sale because Holmes "seemed" like a nut? If he had been forced to use a functionally identical but traditionally styled rifle instead of the "assault weapon" would that have stopped him?

No, No and No.

That's why we need a better solution.

I see the gun nuts are still all about irrational hatred of people they don't know and can't be bothered understanding, tethered with the obligatory conspiracy theories fed to you by gun manufacturer sales departments.
Sure it may be badly written legislation. But let's also assume, with out superior knowledge of all humanity, that they're irrational, driven by fear, and all about "red meat for the base".
Hey William - you sound like a really reasonable guy who really cares about your community. Indeed, no point in trying to find solutions to stopping the slaughter of people in our community, when we hate them as much as you do, right? Meh - who needs to be in the first world anyway. USA! USA! USA!

IF you want to end the violence, then end poverty, end lack of health care (to include mental health care) & end poor education. Those will do more than feel good legislation that won't prevent the next mass killing.

But it's easier to pretend gun control is the answer because doing any of those, much less all of them, would be real, hard, work.

Well, yeah, it's an election year. Obama is not going to further alienate potential independents by taking up the gun control issue now. In view of the IANSA struggles AND debates this year.

NRA worked with our allies in the U.S. Congress and successfully assembled strong bipartisan opposition to any treaty that adversely impacts the Second Amendment. On two occasions NRA was successful in convincing a majority of the U.S. Senate to sign letters to President Obama that made it clear that any treaty that included civilian arms was not going to be ratified by the U.S. Senate

Obama is not stupid.

Comprehensive Education and Cost-free Contraception.

When we value children more than we value zygotes, we will truly be pro-life.

Maybe I was wrong about the election season.

Who knows, with the way it's spinning . . . .
