The last time I was at a JC Penney, they had like two checkout stations on an entire floor. Of course the purpose of this is to do away with the human employees. Very bad move, JCP.

Agreed. Might be their last move as well. But now we at least know of where not to send our resumes for cashier positions.

Will human workers even be needed in the future in brick and mortar stores? The Internet and automation is eliminating whole sections of work and I don't see replacements for these menial and not so menial jobs on the horizon and it seems our politics are so polarized no one is addressing this.

JCP is making a very high risk move and I wish them well in their effort. However, personal service has always been the cornerstone of retail establishments. Maybe we are all changing our expectations. We shall surely see one way or t' other.
