I thought they already did this. I think it was reported on /. more than a few months ago.

The article doesn't mention it and I can't find it right now, but you don't really need climate change to raise the sea level in this area. Historical data shows it is rising and just using that this area is likely to be underwater in a few decades. (I really don't want to have to dig through all those /. postings again thank you)

The fun part of this is, the gov't is now permitted/forced to issue building permits, but Insurance companies aren't forced to ignore the data. Therefore buying insurance here is going to be prohibitively expensive.

I wonder if this developer will pull more strings to get the gov't to issue insurance that ignores the data again? This could be a great test case for the real impact of Climate Change Denial. It's reported, known and everyone involved on both sides is well aware of the other's arguments. When the predictions come true it'll be a quick sound bite that the dimmest bulb will understand.

Since It has already been pointed out by someone far smarter than me that the only thing required to stop global sea level rise is the distribution of billions of buckets to those who live near the shoreline I fail to see what people are carrying on about here.

If everyone does their part and we collectively remove enough water from the ocean and pour it down the drain then obviously there will be no rise in global sea levels!

This guy is a real piece of work:

Tom Thompson, president of NC-20, a coastal development group and a key supporter of the law, said the science used to make the 39-inch prediction was flawed, and added that the resources commission failed to consider the economic consequences of preparing the coast for a one-meter rise in sea level, under which up to 2,000 square miles would be threatened.

So, blame the state both ways, and make up a few things too.

Leave it to Republicans to believe that the universe considers their money so important that it bends to their will.

The hubris of the wretched.
