‘Dark Knight’ copycat arrested at Ohio movie theater
Police found suspect with loaded 9mm Glock and several knives while waiting in back of theater for show to start.
A man was arrested at the Regal Cinemas at Crocker Park, in Westlake Saturday after he was discovered to be in possession of multiple weapons while sitting in an empty theater waiting for the 10 p.m. showing of “The Dark Knight Rises” to start.
Scott Smith, of North Ridgeville, had a beige satchel that raised suspicion when he entered the theater. After Smith took a seat, an off-duty Westlake police officer who was providing security to the movie theater asked to search the bag.
By the way, the potential mass murderer is armed the way NRA 2nd amendment fanatics always say we should be armed at all times, you know, for protection. The suspect claims he was carrying the weapons for ‘self defense’.
‘Batman’ movie-goer brings guns, knives for ‘protection’
A lawyer says there could be a simple explanation for why an Ohio man allegedly armed himself to the teeth for a Saturday night screening of “The Dark Knight Rises”: He wanted the protection.
Scott A. Smith, 37, of North Ridgeville allegedly packed a bag with a loaded 9-millimeter Glock, extra ammunition clips and four knives for his trip to the movie theater, according to Cleveland.com.
A search of Smith’s home following his arrest turned up additional weapons, according to another report on Cleveland.com. That report said those items included eight rifles and handguns as well as “survivalist’s gear” such as gas masks and bulletproof vests. The site additionally said that Smith was believed to have spent some time in the military.
