Universal healthcare at state level = Good
Universal healthcare at national level = Bad.

So Mitt loses because the desired conservative outcome would have been for this man's wife die without access to proper care? Erick is a sociopath.

Universal healthcare at state level by Republican = Good
Universal healthcare at national level by Democrat = Bad.

Well, in fairness, I think we're long past the point where it is assumed that the teabagGOP candidate represents something like a coherent policy program.

The asylum inmates over at FR are grumbling, so Mr. Erickson may have something of a point as far as the TP/SoCons are concerned.
Many of that branch of the GOP are deeply hesitant about the ole Mittster from what I can see in my lurking; for me, the more interesting question is how many of them will stay home, or simply vote down-ticket and leave the President/Vice-President part of the ballot either blank, vote third party, or write-in Sarah Palin/Herman Cain/Allen West, etc., come Election Day?

This is what I don't get about the GOP. Arguing about the many ways to attain universal coverage is one thing, but to argue against it at all is insane. What is the problem that conservatives have with universal health coverage? I don't understand it on moral or economic grounds. And Republicans are the only conservatives in the advanced modern world that are against it. Other conservative parties know it's the right thing to do both morally and economically so what the hell is wrong with our conservatives?

There's a depraved desire among some libertarians and conservatives to punish the poor. Giving them access to healthcare is seen as liberal welfare statism that must be avoided at all costs...a gift that the poor don't deserve. The contemporary American right, as you correctly point out, stands alone in the developed world in its belief that healthcare is not a human right. Truly an embarrassment for the US.
