What you speak of is GOP bread and butter.

Romney and Ryan are the Sails on the Not So Good Ship Hatred and Fear.

I would put absolutely nothing beyond a person who could write that obnoxious budget OR the person who has endorsed it and picked Ayn Ryan for a running mate.

PS this is absolutely hilarious, under the circumstances:

Now there is better and lesser angels? Only from the mouths of liars and cheats could that fall. To those who "want their country back" I have only this to ask. Can you give me a description? Last known address? Phone number? Height? Color of hair? Complexion? Weight? I'll look for it. No charge. Free. Just let me know. It might be hiding out in my town. You never know.

Well, the phrase is Lincoln's, but Romney's use of it is purely obnoxious. I mean, the phrase 'our better angels', not 'I want my country back'. Although Lincoln, if he'd said, "I want my country back," would have been making sense.

Dunno. The white ex-marine's comments didn't strike me as racist (he sounded more nativist to me) so much as paranoid and conspiratorial. He even mentioned Area 51/Dreamland in passing; I'm surprised he didn't mention Agenda 21 and black helicopters.

I'd love to see some evidence that American-born Mexican children are being bused in from Mexico to attend US public schools in NM. I find that difficult to believe.

Thanks for that. Did not know where he lifted it from, just sounded like the rest of his pandering babble. The "want my country back" is a phrase from the GOP "Taking America back" BS and some phrases I saw a and heard from some completely deluded individuals. It's dog whistle IMHO.

Dogwhistling (coded racist words) is the only thing I can think of to explain how Ryan wins re-election when his ideology would throw 99% of his constituency under the federal bus.

That means to me, when the white old people in Ryan's district hear 'cut federal entitlements' they hear: no more of our 'white money' going to fund shiftless lazy minorities and our federal entitlement money will be safe because he is really talking about 'welfare'.

I've been reluctant to talk about this for the very reason the audience member at Ryan's event brings up. I know the community he goes to for a couple of months a year, presumably to escape the snowy Wisconsin winter. Columbus NM is a very small town just north of Palomas, Chih., Mexico. Palomas has no hospital. Women in labor sometimes go to the border and ask for help, and are transported to the nearest hospital, which is in Deming, NM, a town of 10,000, 30 miles north of the border. Of course the children they give birth to there are American Citizens. The people of Columbus and Deming have (for the most part) no problem with busing these children to their schools and educating them. I figured eventually the word would get out and some less kind person such as the one in this video would make a fuss. I think he should spend his winters in Arizona, where he will find more people who agree with him.

Many other border communities have students coming from Mexico to go to school, but most of them don't involve buses because the communities aren't so far apart. It's three miles from the border to Columbus, and there's no high school in Columbus, so they go to Deming.

I think nativists are almost always racists. The guy in the video thinks we can keep people from crossing the border if we want to, and he uses our ability to keep people out of Area 51 as an example. That's a stupid comparison, because the border divides two communities that are in many ways one. There are also billions of dollars in commerce that cross the border every year. We can't just seal it like a military base.

I don't think the video proves that Paul Ryan is a racist. I think he's reading from his notes when he says "anchor babies cost a lot of money" as a way of letting the guy know he heard his point. It does show that Ryan takes a glib, unfeeling, and perhaps uninformed position on immigration. He may not know how offensive the terms "anchor baby", "catch and release" and "illegal immigrant" are to people who have more empathy.
