I think the men involved were former military and as such were used to getting correspondence from loved ones via such methods when deployed? That could answer why they felt as they did for someone they just met over the internet?

The deviousness in play here obviously exceeds you imagination (as it did mine, too). This guy, and his 'mark' were both total liars with regard to who they were and everything about their lives.

You won't believe how fucked up this is till you watch it.

And just when you think it couldn't be any more fucked up, it drops one hell of a bomb. Unbelievable.

A few months ago there was a TV movie about this, on Lifetime or Oxygen or one of those channels. I knew what to expect, so I was intrigued enough, having seen the documentary a couple of years ago, to actually sit through it, and its attendant advertisements for fabric softeners, etc. I should say I thought I knew what to expect. But, the story was told primarily from the point of view of the wife, and how this all affected her.

I understand that for editorial reasons, generally, but not for this story. Oh, well. The documentary is amazing, though.

I don't think I can stomach watching true life horror like this. I can watch zombies devour people easier than I can stomach such true life tales.
