There is a theme here - where the rules seem not to apply to the ruling elite or upper class in GOP eyes as much as they do to the rest of us. This is not new. Republicans pushed Prohibition in an effort to correct and control the behavior of the 'great unwashed' but it was observed the Republicans who were the biggest pushers of Prohibition had spirits available for themselves and their guests at parties - the excuse given was they - the upper classes - could handle the stuff but it was all those German, Irish and other yucky low class immigrants that could not handle their drink so the law was really to be enforced on them.
I kind of think the same mentality is at play here with the modern GOP. The upper classes can handle an abortion now and then but those lower classes just won't stop getting abortions because they have loose morals and what not.
I know there is a religious dimension to the abortion debate as well but it seems to me more of a control of women ideology within the GOP than a religious dimension these days.
