KKK Demonstration in Harpers Ferry
Rangers at Harpers Ferry National Historic Park in Jefferson County are not expecting problems today at the Ku Klux Klan demonstration taking place in the park.
The KKK acquired a special use permit for a First Amendment Demonstration Rally and Chief Ranger Jeff Woods said the permit is very structured.
“Basically it’s more about security. Things that could be used as weapons aren’t allowed in the demonstration area,” said Wood. “There will be security screening for both the demonstrators and counter protestors.”
With any of these types of demonstrations comes the possibility for a counter protest according to Woods.
“There’s always the possibility that there could be counter protestors,” said Wood. “We don’t have a high expectation for that for this event, but there’s a possibility.”
But just in case, additional law enforcement has been brought in to keep the peace.
