Why do Conservatives play rock songs by artists that are on record as being against their ideology?

There are plenty of country music artists who would not mid a bit.

Because they don't have a clue about music. They zoom in on a certain artist or lyric and it's: "Hey, that works, we'll use that!"

But they usually fail to consider the context of the song or the political leanings of the singer.

A classic example was Ronald Reagan wanting to use "Born in the U.S.A." Not only is the song NOT the patriotic song suggested by the title, the singer is also a known Democratic supporter.

But the GOP didn't have a clue and were at one time hopeful that Springsteen would endorse Reagan.

The American rock band R.E.M. on Thursday demanded that Fox News ‘cease and desist’ using their song ‘Losing My Religion’ during its coverage of the Democratic National Convention.

Stay classy, Fox News.

Good memory on Reagan's 'Born in the USA'. They just go with what works with the visual and the hook of the song - which describes the GOP way of politics.

More recently we had one of Scott Walker's supporters playing a song by Dropkick Murphy a band that's about as noticeably pro-union as they are celtic....

When we have rightwingers people singing "Thank you God" By Tim Minchin then we have truly reached Wingnutularity.

That was my favorite part, too. Stipe has a way with words, doesn't he? Oh yea, he's a song writer!

I bet they thought they were being clever by playing that specific song too... idiots.

If there's any party in America that's 'losing its religion' it's the GOP.
