I don't see why any of that would turn someone into a Donk if they weren't a liberal already. Turn's out Jeremiah Goulka was ultimately just a RINO; the Republican Party is better off without him. Good Riddance to Left-Wing Rubbish.

No Satire, BTW, this is what I believe.

I guess that's what happens when there is only one allowable definition of a Republican. Seems that the party would benefit from having a bit more internal diversity of opinion but that's ya'll ticket.

Why can't there be a liberal republican?

Why can't there be a liberal republican?

Or a compassionate Republican?

Daily Kos gets new Republicans leaving the GOP posting there quite a bit.

So you're going with No True Republican then?

A 'TRUE' Republican stands by his ideologically stagnant mates no matter how incredibly wrong they may be.

D_F, you're becoming more rigid in your belief system. That inflexibility is likely not good for your mental health.

Oh, one other point. Someone normally self labelling as a member of a political party moving to the centre is neither an indicator of false beliefs nor is it Earth shaking in importance. New information, especially if it contradicts prior beliefs, should change a person's perspectives.

The Fraternal Order of Police declined to endorse a candidate this year, after supporting Republican presidential candidates in 2000, 2004, and 2008. Why? Ohio Senate Bill 5.

Lodge 141’s president, Sergeant T.J. Assion, told me that he was leaving the memorabilia on the wall for a reason: The battle over the legislation had a lasting impact on him and many other members of the union who generally leaned Republican. “We keep it up there to remind ourselves,” said Assion, a Marine veteran. “I myself have been a registered Republican my entire life, but that changed this time.” By undermining public-employee collective-bargaining rights, the legislation “was going to strip away every single thing we hold dear,” he said. “You start saying, ‘Working men and women don’t have a voice at the table.’

Perspectives, how do they work?

I am actually disapointed in you, DK.

Use your brain and read the piece instead of resorting to knee jerk, non thinking ad homium responses.

The experience of the author reminds me of my own...and I used to mock Dems as "libtard moonbats" with the best of the Redstate types. However, I also believe in modeling ideology on reality...not the other way around, and I found reality did not include many things I had assumed to be true.

Why not looking at the reasons why this guy left your party instead of just dismissing him as left wing rubbish and a RINO?

DF should read that article. When your party leaves you, where do you go? The GOP as present is neither a party nor a choice. It is a sellout. Pure. Simple. Sell. Out. I too am a person who will never again in my life vote (R) for anything. Voting GOP is like sleeping on train tracks denying the reality of trains.

I thought this thread was going to be about Nicki Minaj

Also - there have been plenty of liberal, educated, thinking Republicans in the past. Compared to this bunch, GHWB is one of them. In the 19th century Republicans were progressives (like Lincoln, remember him?)

And since when, Dark Falcon, does being "Republican" mean being and ignorant, misogynist bigot? That's what a great many so-called Republicans have become - reactionary too both in terms of economic policy and foreign policy.

This doesn't sound like Eisenhower to me - or Rockefeller -

Tragically the GOP seems to have been invaded by a weird mixture of extreme Christianists, plutocrats and leftovers from the bad old days when guys wore white sheets at night and women were completely oppressed - and they're being riled up 24/7 by the likes of Rush Limbaugh who is purely hateful, not to mention FOX "news" which is in the business of spreading disinformation. Take the ACA and "death panels" as one example.

Thinking people, people who've seen poverty, racism and violence up close, who have seen what happens when workers have no rights and when women are victimized, wouldn't support a party that thinks this is ok. Nor would they support a party that blurs the lines between church and state and also, corporate and political interests, the interests of the people.

There's a big difference between being "conservative" and being "far right wing." Sadly the GOP has been turning into the latter, it isn't pro-American it's pro-corporation and that's a real problem. Eventually the voters themselves will figure this out.

This thought process is exactly why your party is getting smaller and smaller.

You've just disqualified yourself from using the term 'political correctness' ever again.
