I generally just stick to pomegranates.

I usually have something sweet. This year it is chocolate fudge. Happy New Year.

I have heard durian described as "eating vanilla custard in an outhouse".

There is a saying in SE Asia: "When the Durians go down, the sarongs go up". Its a noted aphrodisiac. And, yes - once past the smell - Yumbo!

Mangosteen.

No, I haven't tried it. The Princess has. She has also purposefully purchased Qumquats.

There's a religious significance to pomegranates; they are said to contain 613 seeds - which is, of course, the full number of mitzvahs outlined in Torah.

Shanah tovah, everyone!

The lychee martinis I had in Beijing were AMAZING.

10 wheat-dogg  Mon, Sep 17, 2012 2:53:13am

Hey, lychee are not so bad! They should be slightly sweet and juicy. I'm not sure if they're grown in the States, though, so transport may spoil their flavor.

Dragonfruit are slightly sweet, too. Best served in a fruit salad with other fruits.

Passionfruit are also known as grenadilla. They're grown in South America and South Africa and their juice is delicious! One of the things I miss from S. Africa was a juice bar that sold the juice by the liter.

Durian smell awful, no doubt about it. A friend convinced me to try eat some. The fruit really does taste like a kind of custard, but after a while the smell put me off. I stopped after eating two segments of the flesh.

Try longyan (longan) is you can find them. They are small like lychee, but have a thin brown skin. The name means "dragon eye," so if you're put off by fruit that look like eyeballs, better skip this one.

L'shanah tovah!

New Method for Producing Clean Hydrogen
Duke University engineers have developed a novel method for producing clean hydrogen, which could prove essential to weaning society off of fossil fuels and their environmental implications. While hydrogen is ubiquitous in the environment, producing and collecting molecular hydrogen for transportation and industrial uses is expensive and complicated. WAPO’s Glenn Kessler Gives Three “Pinocchios” To Claim of Doctored Emails
It has long been part of the Washington game for officials to discredit a news story by playing up errors in a relatively small part of it. This is a really nice place. Don't f*ck it up. -- Chrysler Hall, Norfolk, Virginia in the Spring of 1984. A very genteel place to see fine compositions performed live. Usually the opera folks hang out there.
