what the hell is wrong with him? the whole story is so absurd. chinese people are trying to break into a factory to work? would they then expect to get paid for their work? it's like he's some kind of bizarro version of mike daisey.

The video and the article does not say he believed the barbed wire kept people out. In fact the telling of the story makes clear that he didn't.

Also calling the money earned by the workers a "pittance" is a hint that he didn't think it was a good thing.

AND of course the fact that he didn't invest says a lot about how he felt about the circumstances he was presented.

NOW General Motors felt the exact opposite.

They took the TARP money and set up in China.

"Almost 7 out of every 10 cars we make are made outside the United States"
--DAN AKERSON, CEO, GENERAL MOTORS

Shrinking their U.S. operations while increasing the Chinese business. He also said:

“We have eleven joint ventures in China with SAIC and FAW – vehicle manufacturing, sales, distribution, engineering, design, financing, (etc.). We operate 11 final assembly plants in China and 4 power train plants in 8 cities across the country… We have more than 2,700 dealerships and sales outlets nationwide.”

SAIC is Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp – run by the communist government of China. FAW is another Chinese government-owned manufacturer.

“We regard our 11 joint ventures as 11 keys to success not just in China, but globally. Our commitment to working in China, with China, for China remains strong and focused on the future.”
