The beef industry and consumption of same is very damaging to our health and to our environment. To deny that is like denying man influenced global climate change is a reality.

Yes, but that's not the point of my page. The point of my page is that 18 wheelers do give us all a benefit, whether we like it or not. Unless you made or built everything you use, wear, sit on, eat, or drive, you have benefited.

(Who knows, maybe you are posting from a shack in the woods that you built from wood you chopped down yourself while eating tubers you dug out of the ground with your bare hands. However, I know you didn't build the computer that you're posting on.)

There is a movement to eat food that is sourced as close to where you live as possible. If we raise the fuel tax we would see this be more of a reality. And yes it would decrease pollution and reduce consumption of fossil fuels.

And if eating locally means you eat less meat and more veggies, so much the better for your health.

The rest of the article is straw man type shit as to why we should not change the fucked up and damaging practices we have adopted these last decades.

This would work great for me. I live in Oregon. I can pick my own strawberries five miles from my house.

How well does this work for Arizona, New Mexico, or Manhattan?

No strawberries, pineapple, or apples for you...ever.

We have strawberries and apples, but no blueberries!!

Lots of beef, though....and cactus.

Ha! I don't even have to get in a car to get blueberries. I don't even have to put shoes on, really.

I'd never eat pineapple again. Or coconut. Or bananas.

Well, there is always the old Coney Island Whitefish, I suppose.

Manhattan is only an hour's drive from thriving farmland.

I am not talking about ending agriculture as we know it but there is nothing wrong with eating fruit in season and paying a little more for food grown far away to compensate for the fuel pollution costs.

And eat less meat for goodness sake.

First of all, you're right about the fruit in season. I never buy grapes any other time, because they won't be good.

However, we already have a problem with the price of produce being too expensive for the poor.

I support govt subsidies of fruits and vegetables like they do in Germany.
