Facebook, the new Urban Legend Garden
Seriously, it grows more Urban Legends than a bachelor’s bathroom grows mold spores.
I just got this one: Walter Reed has banned patients from having Bibles or religious texts brought to them.
Checked Snopes. They actually did—on accident—and it was never enforced. A poorly written memo would have had that effect; no Bibles, Korans, copies of the Book of Mormon, prayer books, tefillins, rosaries, prayer shawls, religious magazines, etc. should have made it through the doors during the months it was in effect.
Except, of course, that the people who work there aren’t idiots. The ban was to stop proselyting of people who can’t get up off the bed. It was not intended to stop the soldiers from having the effects of their own faiths brought in, and apparently it never was.
But—never get in the way of a good Urban Legend. Also—law of Unintended Consequences. Respect it.
