Smoking is as addictive as heroin. If we had Obamacare start already (how long do we have to wait?) these poor people maybe could afford anti-smoking treatments and having them quit smoking saves on healthcare costs down the line.

Definitely more assistance should be given them to quit smoking; the tax should not be lowered. How many more children would light up if smoking was more affordable?

But the poor are part of that freeloading 47% who pay no taxes... oh wait.

In Florida they ran a campaign to help people quit that included either the patch or gum (while supplies lasted) and had info on all the support groups. [Link: www.tobaccofreeflorida.com...]

Interestingly, I think that is the same percent that the English working class of the early Industrial Revolution spent on tea.

Tea isn't carcinogenic, or physically addictive, but I expect it's a somewhat similar phenomenon.

To think we waste our time worrying about pot.

With the taxes smokers spend on cigarettes there should be free nicotine patches bulging out of fishbowls in every government building in the country.
