This is why the current form of the GOP can not go on

For some conservatives, the GOP is too hot (too crazy for the moderates)

For some, the GOP is too cold (RWNJ's that think the party isn't "conservative" enough. Oh, and why aren't they talking about Rev. Wright?)

There are fewer and fewer Americans who find this incarnation of the party to be just right. It must change or it will disappear

I read the full context of his 47% comments when they first came out, but hadn't done so again until just now. Maybe it's because I haven't finished my first cup of coffee yet, but the words seem even harsher now than they did then. Good grief, you can't just pink slip half of all Americans like dead weight that needs to be dumped.

Maybe that's it—maybe he can't pull his mind out of the corporate world where if someone isn't performing up to a certain standard to bring in profits, then you simply dismiss them.

Memo to Mr. Romney: You truly seem to have no clue what the job of POTUS entails. Government isn't business, you're not running for CEO of USA Inc., and you sure as hell can't fire the electorate and be done with them.

Are you out of your frickin' mind? How can you have been smart enough to make all those millions, yet still be so utterly clueless? It boggles the mind.

What's also clear is just how he was able to do his vulture thing - he doesn't "see" or feel other people. The employees and business owners who were destroyed by being "helped," the recipients of Bain's tender mercies, weren't real - even when they wrote letters begging for help.

Can you imagine a guy like this in control of our military with its monstrous power?

As for the Republican Party - I don't what to think. We were talking about it this morning - several pretty radical groups have taken roost there:

Extreme right wing "Christians"
Fully owned pets of the corporate world and the extremely rich
Tea Partiers
Ayn Rand followers

None of these could be considered "conservative," they're all pretty radical and actually, pulling in different directions though there is overlap in some cases and some areas.

Maybe a parliamentary system could more adequately reflect what should be splinter parties. Meanwhile the GOP has elected, rather than disavow or try to moderate them, to try and incorporate several radical right wing interest groups into a "political party," and sell it to the American people.

I think the Republicans, if there are any true moderates left in the Party, need to stand up, define their belief system, and see if they really want to represent these other guys. The sell out to Grover Norquist alone is pretty appalling, so it the Senate Minority Leader's avowed determination to get rid of Obama rather than help lead this nation, and the antics of the 2010 Congress have been disastrous to the country and have resulted in the downgrade of our credit rating and the approaching "fiscal cliff," which may well result in a full fledged Depression.

Thanks guys. If your goal was to turn us in a giant outdoor Foxxcon, congrats.

Indigenous Americans Ruled Democratically Long Before the U.S. DidDemocracy: it was older and more widespread than we thought. At the Oconee site, called Cold Springs, artifacts were excavated before the valley became an aquatic playground. Now, new older-than-expected radiocarbon dates for those museum-held finds push back the origin ...
