He doesn't mean that they should open when the plane is pressurized, but that there should be a way to get air in the plane fast when it is at a safe level.

Look, his wife was in a serious flight issue that could have resulted in injuries.

BUT please keep thinking his is stupid. Despite everything he has accomplished. Despite his education.

Underestimate his intelligence.

Great plan.

Whatever his rationale, the idea that he can't figure out why passengers can't roll their windows down is a demonstration of stupidity.

Let's see... who's dumber... someone who can't fathom why windows in a pressurized aircraft (let alone a Vegas hotel room) won't open... or the person who thinks this isn't a dumb question to ask....

Ladies and Gentlemen we're having a slight issue with our aircraft. We're going to descend to 10k feet and slow to 180 mph. We'll need all of you to roll your windows down....

OMG. Sorry, Buck, but "why don't the windows in a plane roll down" is just so stupid. It doesn't make any sense, if you have ANY concept of airplane design, pressurization, metal fatigue issues at all you wouldn't even ask this question in the first place.

Also, fire feeds on oxygen. That's another issue, re windows - not to mention, people jumping on or off the plane via the windows, maybe in mid air. As it is people have tried to get out the doors, but they won't open when the plane is pressurized.

re: #1 Buck

Most of us know he's not unintelligent.
But most of us also know that he's still trying to keep the right-wing-nut base on side; trying to maintain goodwill with a constituency which has been suckered into believing that critical thinking and tertiary education are elitist and anti-American.
And we also know that because he's mainly restricted himself to right wing media, he's not used to actually having to use his brain - and when the brain stagnates, it ceases to be able to reason as well as it might have if it's owner had allowed some exercise from time to time - but that, of course, would have meant losing the GOP primary.

The most important reason not to have airplane windows that open: Gremlins!

OK, I didn't take this too much to heart, but do you seriously think Mitt Romney has come up with some new insight into safe plane design?

I'll accept that he was rattled by his wife's having been in danger, but what he said was STUPID.

That doesn't mean he is stupid, but what he said certainly was.

Obesity is on the rise-- as is the incidence of Heart Disease, Diabetes, Stroke and various forms of Cancer. And, shockingly, diseases that had in the past begun in old age are now appearing at much earlier ages. A groundbreaking scientific study showed how easily (and inexpensively) the rate of occurrence of these and other serious illness could be greatly reduced-- but this information ...
