He doesn't mean that they should open when the plane is pressurized, but that there should be a way to get air in the plane fast when it is at a safe level.

Look, his wife was in a serious flight issue that could have resulted in injuries.

BUT please keep thinking his is stupid. Despite everything he has accomplished. Despite his education.

Underestimate his intelligence.

Great plan.

Whatever his rationale, the idea that he can't figure out why passengers can't roll their windows down is a demonstration of stupidity.

Let's see... who's dumber... someone who can't fathom why windows in a pressurized aircraft (let alone a Vegas hotel room) won't open... or the person who thinks this isn't a dumb question to ask....

Ladies and Gentlemen we're having a slight issue with our aircraft. We're going to descend to 10k feet and slow to 180 mph. We'll need all of you to roll your windows down....

OMG. Sorry, Buck, but "why don't the windows in a plane roll down" is just so stupid. It doesn't make any sense, if you have ANY concept of airplane design, pressurization, metal fatigue issues at all you wouldn't even ask this question in the first place.

Also, fire feeds on oxygen. That's another issue, re windows - not to mention, people jumping on or off the plane via the windows, maybe in mid air. As it is people have tried to get out the doors, but they won't open when the plane is pressurized.

re: #1 Buck

Most of us know he's not unintelligent.
But most of us also know that he's still trying to keep the right-wing-nut base on side; trying to maintain goodwill with a constituency which has been suckered into believing that critical thinking and tertiary education are elitist and anti-American.
And we also know that because he's mainly restricted himself to right wing media, he's not used to actually having to use his brain - and when the brain stagnates, it ceases to be able to reason as well as it might have if it's owner had allowed some exercise from time to time - but that, of course, would have meant losing the GOP primary.

The most important reason not to have airplane windows that open: Gremlins!

OK, I didn't take this too much to heart, but do you seriously think Mitt Romney has come up with some new insight into safe plane design?

I'll accept that he was rattled by his wife's having been in danger, but what he said was STUPID.

That doesn't mean he is stupid, but what he said certainly was.

These 5 Countries Are Crushing the Whole Gender Equality Thing at Home
When looking at this data, it's important to remember that gender equality isn't just about women working more paid hours or doing less housework. It's also about men cutting back their work hours to pitch in more around the house. Countries that have lighter workweeks, in fact, tend to have a more equal distribution between men and women in the home. The OECD ...

Oklahoma School District OKs ‘Bible Curriculum’ Created by Hobby Lobby President
Green hopes the program -- which will be overseen by Jerry Pattengale, head of the Green Scholars Initiative -- will be placed in "hundreds" of high schools by 2016, and "thousands" by 2017. When Evangelicals Were Pro-Choice - GOPlifer
Jamelle Bouie had a great piece at Slate last week explaining the long strange journey of Protestant Evangelicals from pressing for the expansion of abortion rights to vehement opposition to nearly every aspect of women's reproductive choices. Bouie correctly identifies the trend, but he misses an important pivot point that calls the rest of his analysis into question. Bouie correctly points out that ...

Russ Campbell’s Blog: Will Trudeau’s Party Pay for His Ill-Chosen Words?
Justin Trudeau has talked himself into a defamation lawsuit that is likely to leave his party quite a bit lighter in the wallet. The shoot-from-the-lip Liberal leader and his Ontario campaign co-chair David MacNaughton are named in a $1.5-million libel suit filed on behalf of Christine Innes, a candidate who was barred from running for the Liberal party. The Insane History of Rockets at Jet Propulsion Laboratories
The Rocket Boys In the late 1930s, a group of Caltech graduate students were booted off campus after blowing up (part of!) their building during a rocket test gone awry. Unwilling to give up on the joy of semi-controlled explosions, the students and a few of their friends headed into the San Gabriel Mountains. They picked a deserted gully -- Arroyo Seco -- ...

North Carolina Appeals Coal Ash Ruling
There's a lot of very weird stuff going on in the newly insane state of North Carolina. The state has a problem with coal ash, and with its groundwater, and with the reluctance of Duke Energy to clean up, among other things, the 39,000 fking pounds of the gunk that it spilled into the Dan River in February. The state's Environmental Management Commission ...
