I understand why she did it, but it is still illegal and wrong. Spray-painting posters on the subways was what happened in NYC in the Bad Old Days, and to tolerate it would be a ‘broken window’. Ms. Eltahawy should be given a moderate term of community service and a fine. Jail is not appropriate in her case.

She should have used one of those peel-off stickers like they used on Pamela’s signs in the BART.
