The Arab Spring put one shibboleth to rest- discontent in the Arab world had almost nothing to do with the Palestinians.

The people had enough of the broken, dysfunctional and oppressive regimes and their sycophant defenders.

That's what really set them off.

Put it to rest in whose mind? You know as well as I that it will continue to be raised as such anyway.

And I wish them all the best---

That's what really set them off.

--- I just wish there was something WE (ok, the US, if not the rest of the world) could do without looking like we are "interfering."

Well, there isn't. So we act if we must and we'll just have to accept the anger that comes with it while limiting any actions to the indispensable minimum.

In the meeting rooms of various Foreign Services. The issue has been the psychological axis describing, with a broad brush, the Arab world. Now, the paradigms, the notions of cause and effect are broken. It's impossible to predict events in the next three months, let alone years. And that ability to predict is basically the entire job description.

Now, among the hoi polloi, it's still going to be an issue--however, other issues will become much more important to the passersby.
