My husband (Eagle Scout himself) is deeply pissed off about this case.

re: #1 SanFranciscoZionist

I don't blame him.

The organization appears weak, indecisive and intolerant.

Not what one expects from a group that claims to value moral and ethical values.

Neither the government or BSA have any business in the bedrooms of the nation.

When we were involved in Scouting the troop's position was that sex wasn't a Scouting activity so who cared about 'orientation'?

Honestly, I don't see how Ryan's sexual orientation OR his theological outlook are things that the BSA should care about. Not sure what the leadership's reasoning is, but they currently appear mean, prejudiced and confused. Not a good look.

I sort of had this discussion on one of the main threads, and I kind of danced around this issue, as the Lizardoids who've been involved with the BSA really like it. My opinion and what not, but...

Gven the BSA's attitude towards gays and non-believers, I don't understand why these groups want to be associated with the Scouts. To be brutally frank, an atheist or LGBT person joining the BSA at this point is no different than gay people joining the GOP.

Both are organizations that leave zero doubt that they, at best, consider LGBT people and non-believers as second-class citizens. I would have a hard time rationalizing that with "Well, my troop isn't like that."

If the national office finds out your troop has one of this group as members, they will not shrug their shoulders and go "Whatever." That person will be asked to leave, regardless of all the good work they've done.

As for the theory that "The national office won't know because we won't say anything", how is that not the Scouting version of "Dont' ask, don't tell"?
