Creating a computer simulation of the universe doesn't prove we're living in a computer simulation. This is just as stupid as someone claiming "I've proven god does/doesn't exist! Whooooo!"

Are there things we can learn from a simulation of the universe? In theory, yes. But our own universe being a lie is not one of them. That is mental masturbation, period.

That's not quite what the claim is... It's more like the Fermi Paradox... I believe it goes something like this (and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here):
-technology and computing is allowing the conditions needed to create perfect simulations of the universe/reality.
-Assuming we were capabale of creating a computer simulation that could perfectly represent reality, we would run such a simulation.
-since such a simulation would be useful for various subjects and theories, we would run such a simulation over and over again, perhaps thousands, if not millions of times.
-if this simulation really does perfectly represent reality, people, and life in general, would be simulated perfectly, and in order for the simulation to be accurate, the people being simulated would not be aware of it.
-Since the universes created are perfectly realistic, and probably run over and over again (perhaps millions or even tens of millions of times) testing various theories, it stands to reason that it is more likely that we live in a simulated universe, than the original universe which created the simulation.
-Actually given the sheer amount of simulated universes probably tested, and the realism involved, it is most likely that we could, in fact, be in a simulated universe created by/with in another simulation.
