Extremist Leaders Die in Israeli Airstrikes
A TOP Salafist leader whose group had fired a rocket into Israel from Gaza was killed from the air as he rode his motorbike, and a further attack killed two other Palestinians, also travelling on a bike, as the Israeli Prime Minister vowed to escalate the fight against “jihadists”.
Hours after the strikes, Israel’s cabinet announced that parliamentary elections would be held on January 22.
The first airstrike on Gaza killed leading Palestinian Salafist, Sheik Hisham al-Saedini.
Fellow Salafist Islamic activist Fayek Abu Jazar also died in the raid on the northern town of Jabaliya, Palestinian security sources added. A 12-year-old boy was wounded in that attack.
Several hours later, Israeli warplanes targeted two militants from the armed wing of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine in the southern city of Khan Yunis, killing one.
Speaking to the Israeli cabinet last night, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that jihadists were stepping up their attempts to harm Israelis and warned that their activity would not be tolerated
