Hamas claims responsibility for rockets; IDF intercepts 8 rockets fired toward Ashkelon; IAF strikes kill 4 Hamas members; southern local authorities cancel school.

For Hamas, this would be a major offensive, if all parties would admit to the existence of an active war—as opposed to saying they are in a state of cease-fire.

Israelis don't understand why a major assault against Gaza by the IDF to stop the rockets has not taken place. Perhaps this is part of the reason- Ynet just reported:

In a speech given for the Eid al-Adha holiday, he stressed that Cairo was "Not declaring war on anyone, but we will stand by the Palestinians in any case of aggression against them." (Roi Kais)

Israel cannot be stopped by that. You can't just let an enemy bombard you like that long term. If stopping it means war, then it does.

The most recent reports that I've read say that Egypt is trying to broker a cease-fire. No change in the playbook.

Time will tell whether the old playbook remains in place or a new one, designed for a struggle between Qatar and Egypt for leadership, is being written.
