Lt. General Thomas McInerney is a 75 year old Air Force Lt General who has been retired for almost 20 years. He is also a Fox News contributor and a member of the Iran Policy Committee.

*cough*Gen. Thomas G. McInerney USAF, (Ret.)*cough*

Flack who works for Fox News and had the luxury of weeks of thinking time and perfect 20/20 hindsight says what?

Seriously though, I am not going to second guess these peoples chain of command. If the seven man CIA annex team was told to hold there or "stand down" in regards to traveling to the consulate the person who gave the order must have at least thought he had a good reason. I can think of several possible reasons immediately, not splitting a small force, not leading the terrorists back to the annex, wanting time to further ascertain the situation at the consulate, simple inability to make a snap decision, who knows?

Everything at this point is pure speculation, and it is pointless to spend too much time making up possibilities in my head. Eventually when all the political posturing is done and the investigation completed a true account of what happened will come to light. Until then I simply try to keep up with the facts as they come out in dribs and drabs, I'm not going to cast blame on people who might not deserve it.

It's kind of sad that even conservatives who post at LGF are falling for this right wing nonsense.

re: #3 Charles Johnson

No matter how long its been since playing a guitar or riding a bicycle. When picking one up or mounting the other, if something is not right its obvious.

Having spent a significant amount of time in SE Asia as an IBM Field Engineer and Area Specialist in Data Communications, back in the 60s, one of the entities within our responsibility were the US Embassies.

When a system is installed it is much different than scheduled or unscheduled maintenance. Installation requires full verification and validation of the total capacity of the device and its ability to carry out protocol and procedures as required by the end user.

Not many non-embassy staff have been into the classified areas of an embassy let alone the communications center. I have, multiple times for installation as well as maintenance.

Now even tho my experience is pushing 45 years ago I believe that even with my out of date understanding of emergency procedures, protocols and what happens around the world when one happens, something not right was obvious to me and still is.

When I want straight talk I prefer listening to retired military officers rather than politicians.

*cough* 75 *cough* is not old. When (and if) you get there you may realize this. Decades of experience trumps. Old, is senior-seniors (85 plus) and they may still have massive amounts of personal experience as well as insight that the younger generations could well benefit from.
In the senior community where I live (population just shy of 10,000) the average age is 77. We have more PH.Ds and Nobel Laureates per capita than anywhere on the planet.
We have over 200 activity clubs - one is the "Hiking" Club. Divided into 3 groups. Amblers, Ramblers, and Scramblers. Scramblers take pride in running their associates grandchildren (who visit on the weekends) into the ground. Their minds are just as sharp.

I have several 90 plus clients who still kick ass on the tennis court.

[Disclaimer - I am over 70 and as such am biased]

As I am closer than I ever expected to becoming a senior, I see nothing wrong with your stated bias. :) And I have no doubt that you know many active and exceptional seniors. I also agree that the there is a wealth of knowledge in our senior community. My apologies for coming across as contemptuous of seniors. I certainly am not.

My intended point was that had McInerney been more directly knowledgeable with the operational details associated with Benghazi, due to current or recent service I certainly would have assigned a greater weight to his opinion. That he has been out of the service for two decades, and clearly was not directly knowledgeable of the operational details conveys, to me, a far different thing.
