I wonder if they were interested in differentiating themselves from Catholics at the time?

I thought the fact Evangelicals use to be pro choice was common knowledge. I believe the change came in the 70's when a man named Schaeffer (sic) got pissed about the whole Roe vs Wade thing and decided to try to pull Evangelicals away from their Homo hate and channel it into a new found abortion hate.

Lies, all lies, the bible is immutable and un-alterable, the perfect and inerrant word of God on earth and it has told us to that abortion is murder since the world was created 6000 years ago!

But what about Exodus 21:22 that talks about paying a fine?

22 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.

That verse was probably added by liberals!

But you just said the bible was inerrant...

Lalalalala I can't hear you...

Jerry Falwell was the brain behind this move. I wonder if, at the time, he realized he would capture an entire political party with his reinterpretation of the bible.

For a religious movement so invested in "Sola Scriptura' I can't see where they get that abortion is mentioned anywhere in the Old and New Testaments. No words, or even concepts for abortion (a common medical procedure in the ancient world that pagan Greek doctors who followed the Hippocratic Oath swore not to do). The closest you get is a mention of a man paying a fine if he causes a woman to miscarriage if he gets in a fight with her husband. That's about it.

I dare any anti-abortion religious Protestant to show me where in the Old or New Testament abortion is prohibited let alone mentioned.

"But before casting their ballots, such evangelicals would benefit from pausing to look back at their own history. In doing so, they might consider the possibility that they aren’t submitting to the dictates of a timeless biblical truth, but instead, to the goals of a well-organized political initiative only a little more than 30 years old."

EXCELLENT!

They'll just wave "Choose Life" at you. Never mind the context.

An Interplanetary GPS Using Pulsar Signals
Spacecraft could determine their position anywhere in the solar system to within five kilometres using signals from x-ray pulsars, say astronomers. Navigating in space is a tricky business. The usual method relies on Earth-based tracking stations to work out a spacecraft's distance using radio waves, a process that is accurate to within a metre or so. That's fine for the radial distance, but ...

4 Reasons ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ Is Secretly About Drugs
Nice, right? Anyway, here's my thesis: Raiders of the Lost Ark is not an action-adventure movie about an archaeologist who plays by his own rules and saves the day. Instead, the film is an exploration of Marion Ravenwood's crippling drug addiction. An addiction that was born from her unhealthy relationship and continued association with Indiana Jones. Is it true? Who cares. Can I prove ...

WAPO’s Glenn Kessler Gives Three “Pinocchios” To Claim of Doctored Emails
It has long been part of the Washington game for officials to discredit a news story by playing up errors in a relatively small part of it. Pfeiffer gives the impression that GOP operatives deliberately tried to "smear the president" with false, doctored e-mails. But the reporters involved have indicated they were told by their sources that these were summaries, taken from notes ...
